Ziglar (Zeiglar) is the name of a design rather than a province or tribe. Ziglar rugs are also known as Chobi or Peshawar rugs. A German company, in Manchester, began production of the original Ziglar rugs as early as 1883. They used leading designers and rug knotters from Iran and Europe and succeeded in creating a design that was different from the typical Persian rugs.
Ziglar rugs were designed with the Western market in mind and with the idea of being able to fit a rug perfectly into every home. Today, Ziglar rugs are possibly the most popular and sought-after rugs, mainly in Western homes, due to the stylish tones and soft design. The design is a softer version of the typical Sultanabad design and natural dyes were used when dyeing the rugs. At the same time, you see very stylish color schemes that, together with the design, make the rugs complement modern interiors as well as old traditional ones.
The production of traditional Ziglar carpets began in Arak province but the carpets are now made all over Iran and neighboring countries. Most of the newly designed Ziglar carpets are made in Afghanistan and are called Chobi, which means wood in Persian and refers to their natural colors from plants. Even though Ziglar carpets come from the German company Zeiglar & Co, the carpets are not called Zeiglar & Co carpets, but simply Ziglar.
