William Yeoward

William Yeoward opened his first shop on the King’s Road in Chelsea in 1985 and in time became one of London's most distinctive voices in interior design. He designed furniture, lighting, textiles and accessories with an unmistakable blend of English tradition and playfulness. The starting point was classic — proportions and furniture types with a long history — but the execution almost always contained something that defied expectation: a colour, a detail, an unexpected combination of materials. Yeoward passed away in 2019, but the business continues in the same spirit.

The crystal has a story of its own. Yeoward was a devoted collector of antique crystal but felt that what was being made in his own time lacked beauty. A meeting in 1993 with Timothy Jenkins, the third generation of the family firm John Jenkins, founded in 1901, led to the creation of William Yeoward Crystal in 1995. Both shared a love of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century glass, and the pieces are still made by hand.

Our collections include William Yeoward furniture, rugs and accessories. The furniture works as individual pieces in rooms where they are meant to be seen, the rugs as the foundation of living rooms and dining rooms, and the glass as the detail that completes a laid table. The breadth makes it possible to work with the same design world through several layers of a room, from floor to table.

The refractions of crystal and the quality of a rug are hard to convey in a photograph — glass changes with the light, and a rug is read as much with the foot as with the eye. In our showroom in Östermalm, Stockholm, you can see the pieces up close, compare rug qualities and talk through how the parts come together as a whole.
