Description

Giles’ love of subverting design tropes led him to explore new iterations of this Sanderson archive original. The archive itself houses a fine collection of mid-to-late 19th century trompe-l’oeil wallpaper patterns, depicting curtains, bows, ribbons and tassels, and here Wilsford is covered in illusion. With a clever use of refined screens, from a distance, Wilsford appears like a beautifully draped fabric. Created using stylised flat colours, Wilsford suits the rotary printing technique and mimics the original document to stunning effect. Like an aged, hazy memory of a bygone period, perfectly preserved and dramatically beautiful, the design revels in decayed decadence, restored on a lavish, grand scale. Wilsford blossoms like an old house, reborn, having found its way through time to be revealed in new beauty.
