Pimpernel dates from 1876 and was drawn by William Morris, with the design registered in February of the same year. The pattern is based on observed nature rather than ornament, and that difference is what keeps it working today.

The pattern repeat is 34.5 cm, which makes it a medium-sized repeat. It is a size that works in small and large rooms alike. A straight match keeps hanging uncomplicated. Pimpernel is available in 4 colourways — Ink/Sage, Linen/Coral, Cobalt/Mineral and Woad/Coral. The difference between them is greater than you might think — the same pattern can make a room either muted or light.

Pimpernel is part of Morris 160th Anniversary from Morris & Co.

The fabric is 139 cm wide and woven in a linen blend. A Martindale rating of 20,000 rubs makes it suitable for upholstery.

The pattern works particularly well in living rooms and bedrooms. The look carries a classic poise, elegance and timelessness, with a medium base tone. Large-scale motifs come into their own on curtains and larger surfaces, less so on cushions and details.
