There is greater variation in Hamadan patterns compared to those of many other districts. Most carpets are made in homes and the wool is somewhat coarse with symmetrical knotting. Many of the remote villages have given names to special motifs that they have created themselves and some motifs have been given names without having a specific place of origin. The most important are Hosseinabad, Jozan, Malayer, Save, Shahsavand, Ingelas and Nanadje.
Hamadan Province is located in northwestern Iran and the district is well known for its carpet making. It is believed that the first carpets were made in Hamadan in the early 17th century. Today, the province has a very large production of hand-knotted carpets, this is due, among other things, to the durable wool used in the production.
